Yesterday, a man told me that since I’m 32 years old, I’m “no longer at my peak.” Those words really hurt me.

Someone shared a conversation that stayed with her. She was spending time with a friend and her friend’s boyfriend when the topic of relationships came up. During the conversation, he casually said that women should find a man and “lock him down” in their 20s because after 30, their dating options supposedly become much worse. She was in her early 30s and single. She didn’t argue. She didn’t defend herself. But the comment stayed in her mind. What bothered her wasn’t just one person’s opinion. It was the fact that she had heard similar ideas many times online — that a woman’s value in dating is somehow tied to her age. But is that really how people see relationships in real life? Do people actually stop valuing someone because they turn 30? Or has social media amplified a fear that doesn’t reflect most people’s experiences? Because relationships are not only about age. They’re about emotional maturity, compatibility, life goals, and whether two people genuinely choose each other. So the bigger question is: When it comes to love and marriage, does age change someone’s value — or does it simply change what they are looking for?
