Why do roommate style marriages get so much hate?
Jul 23, 2026
There are couples who rarely fight, share responsibilities, raise their children together, and look perfectly fine from the outside. They have their own hobbies, their own friends, and their own routines. They respect each other’s space and don’t need to be together every moment. At first, this kind of relationship seems healthy. Two independent people who love each other but still maintain their own lives. But sometimes, years later, one person starts asking a quiet question: “Are we giving each other space, or are we slowly becoming strangers?” Because there is a difference between being comfortable and being disconnected. A relationship doesn’t always fall apart because of betrayal or conflict. Sometimes it happens quietly — when two people stop sharing their thoughts, stop being curious about each other, and stop feeling like they are part of each other’s world. Maybe the hardest relationship question is not “Do we love each other?” Maybe it is: “Do we still feel close?”
