His marriage ended because she cheated. Later, she married the man she cheated with. For years, he tried to stay civil for the children. Custody schedules, holidays, school events — he swallowed his anger because the kids needed peace. He accepted that the other man was in their lives. Then his ex-wife asked for more. She wanted her new husband’s birthday added to the custody schedule because he was “basically their second dad.” He refused. To her, he was being bitter. To him, this was not just a stepfather. This was the man who helped destroy their family. He could co-parent. He could be polite. But he could not pretend the affair partner had earned the same place as their father.
