She begged him not to make it spicy. He did it anyway.

She had told him many times that she could not handle spicy food. It was not a preference. It made her feel sick. Her mouth burned, her stomach hurt, and eating became miserable. Her boyfriend knew this. But whenever he cooked, the food somehow ended up spicy. At first, she tried to laugh it off. Then she started asking more clearly. Then she begged him before one dinner: please, just this once, do not add spice. He agreed. When she tasted the pasta, her mouth immediately burned. He said he did not add anything. Then she saw the red pepper flakes near the pan. He still denied it. When she refused to keep eating, he got angry and said she was ungrateful. He had cooked for her, and she was making him feel bad over “a little spice.” That was when the problem changed. It was no longer about pasta. It was about being ignored, lied to, and then blamed for reacting. She started wondering how many times a person can cross a small boundary before it stops being small.
