My friend’s daughter missed her grandma’s funeral because she never checks her phone
My friend’s daughter has ADHD and depression, and communication has always been hard for her. Her parents helped her growing up with medication, school support, and everything they could. But once she went to college, she had to manage life on her own, and it got messy. 📱 The biggest issue is that she almost never answers texts or calls. If her parents need a response, they joke that driving five hours to campus works better than texting her. They’ve chased her down before, but it’s exhausting. Last week, my friend’s mother passed away. His daughter was close to her grandma, so he knew she would want to come to the viewing. He called her twice, texted her the news, and had her siblings message her too. Nothing. The messages stayed unread. 🕊️ Bringing her home would mean driving five hours to her college, finding her in the dorms, then driving five hours back. My friend and his wife decided not to do that this time. They were grieving too. After the viewing was over, she finally read the messages. She called crying and angry, saying they should have come to get her anyway. Now my friend feels guilty, but also tired. At what point does ignoring your phone become your responsibility?
