He missed the birth. Then told her to get over it.

He did not miss the birth on purpose. That was the hardest part. His wife went into labor early while he was away for work. He had poor signal and did not see the calls until it was too late. By the time he found out, their baby had already been born. He felt awful. She said she understood, but something between them changed. Every time they fought, the birth came back up. When she felt alone, she remembered being alone in the hospital. When he disappointed her, she remembered the biggest moment of her life happening without him. Months passed. Then years. He started feeling like he was being punished for something he could not control. One day, during another argument, he snapped and told her she needed to get over it. The moment he said it, he knew it sounded cruel. But he was exhausted too. Now both of them feel wronged. She feels abandoned in a moment she can never redo. He feels trapped by a mistake he never meant to make. And neither of them knows how to heal from something that was accidental, but still left a scar.
